Hardly. Just don't use the Rubygems Ubuntu package. Installing Rubygems from the .tgz works fine.
man ubuntu/debian fanatics are uppity. :P
For every one of you, there is three others who are frothing at the mouth that rubygems violates the LSB. (yet, they never submit patches...)
