Chris W. over at errtheblog worked on starting a new version of test/unit with compatibility in mind, but also simplification. It hasn't been touched in a while, but it might be useful: http://require.errtheblog.com/projects/browser/test_simple
Chris, interesting... but I had him beat by 150 lines and 234 days with miniunit. i should mention that miniunit is completely dropin compatible with test/unit (sans special runners).
You do realize you're just creating more work for yourself, right? ;-)
